This weekly flea market is the largest in the Czech Republic and Europe, each week offering an endless supply of new and used goods – from practical items to peculiar oddities. The website for the Kolbenova flea market asserts the area covers 50,000 square meters and is the largest flea market in all of Europe. In January, 2003 the „grandfather“ of nowadays FLEA MARKETS arisen. Dear flea markets visitors,barter trade, furniture sale and sale of stuffs, which their owner doesn´t need anymore is tale as old as time. We sought out an infamous 50,000 sq meter flea market last weekend, hopping on the yellow line at Karlovo Namesti and getting off at Kolbenova - in a very decayed industrial area.
Kolbenka flea market was started in October 2004 by Lukas Svoboda and Roman Cilecek as what they described as “a place to offer people a wide collection of vintage finds. You can find the flea market near the metro station Kolbenova (Metro: Kolbenova B). I found so much antique Czech glass in the Vinohrady district, along with wonderful textiles and ceramics at the Kolbenova Flea Market, which is a bit of hike from the city center.
